Whilst the more social side of the Livery takes its summer recess, the business of running each Company very much continues throughout the year and the Water Conservators are no exception. There is much to be done to keep the wheels turning to ensure an effectively run organisation continues to benefit its members. As so it was therefore that the Masters Committee met on-board HQS Wellington on 16 August.
This was the first Masters Committee of my year and comprises of the Thames, Fleet and Walbrook Wardens, the Clerk and the PR Manager. Together we met over a working sandwich lunch to discuss a number of pressing Company matters in readiness for the FM&GP Committee in early September and then on to the full Court later in the month. The Masters Committee is designed to do a lot of the “heavy lifting” necessary to run the Company and to ensure that all the legal, financial and administrative process are working effectively. The Masters Committee has no executive authority however and all recommendations or potential actions are taken to the FM&GP and the Court for approval. But we do make sure that things are in train.
At our meeting many matters were discussed, the chief of these being finance and membership – the two go hand in glove. Papers on both these vital topics will be presented to the FM&GP and are currently being drafted. Suffice to say we do not have enough of either commodity but we have plans!
Other more routine matters were also chewed over and some good ideas brought forward. The team work well and I was very pleased with the levels of energy and enthusiasm shown by each member. This augers well for the year ahead.
I look forward to more of the same and to presenting our work to the Court and the wider membership.
